Dissertation Format – Arranging the First Pages

Dissertation FormatI know that a lot of students consider dissertation formatting to be a dull and rather tricky part of the dissertation writing process. However, you cannot omit it, since this is an obligatory requirement for those who write their dissertations. If you fail to stick to the requirements for a certain dissertation format, your work will not be approved. You will definitely spend some time correcting all the mistakes you have made in the dissertation format.
 
I am sure you know that there are several dissertation formats with their own peculiarities. Thus, it is necessary to be aware of the dissertation format peculiarities established in your college/university.
 
So, we would like to give you some general dissertation format requirements for the first pages of your work.

  • Dissertation format requirements for a title page. The title page of your dissertation should be printed using Times New Roman, Courier or Arial font of, at least, 10 points size, however 12 points are recommended. According to the dissertation format requirements the whole text of your title page should be centered.
  • Dissertation format requirements for a frontispiece and copyright page. These pages are optional, however the latter is recommended. A frontispiece appears after a title page. Both pages do not require numbers and should not be included in a table of contents. According to the dissertation format requirements these pages should have 2 inch margins on the top, 1.5 margins on the left and 1 inch margin on the right and bottom.
  • Dissertation format requirements for a dedication page. This page is also optional. If you are going to include it in your table of contents, it should be numbered. The number will appear in the center at the bottom of the page. The word “dedication” should not be written on the page itself, however it should be written in the table of contents.
  • Dissertation format requirements for the acknowledgements and prologue pages. As you can guess, these pages are also optional. Still, if you include them in your dissertation, they should be numbered in the center at the bottom of the page, and they should have a title word “Acknowledgements” or “Prologue”.

So, these were the dissertation format requirements for the first pages that will appear in your work.
