EBP involves integrating clinical expertise and patient values with the best current evidence about illnesses ad their treatments to guide healthcare decisions.
The utilization of EBP in healthcare settings can significantly improve patient quality and safety in different ways. EBP will help design and implement the most effective and practical methods of communication among nurses and doctors in healthcare institutions to guarantee operative collaboration and coordination in care delivery. Communication is one of the fundamental aspects that influence the quality of care and patient safety through relationships among healthcare professionals (Titler, 2008). I will be an active communicator and team player to ensure that the information regarding a patient’s health status is accurately conveyed to other members. As a result, the room for medical errors and miscommunication will be minimal. EBP will also facilitate the implementation of innovative safety measures in hospitals. For instance, falls within healthcare settings jeopardize patients’ safety and can contribute to a lengthy stay in the hospital. However, providing patients, especially the elderly, with supportive devices and innovatively redesigning pavements and corridors in a way that minimizes chances of falling will enhance their safety.
Interdisciplinary teamwork in care delivery promotes researching and sharing the latest treatment and medication options for a particular illness. The knowledge gained about research will support my role in the practice as a nursing professional in various ways. The knowledge will help identify the most innovative and effective strategies for collaboration with teams to plan for patient care. The knowledge will also help investigate and analyze different ways of administering medications and treatments, which are more effective and safe for the patients. Nurses play a significant role in diagnosing diseases by assessing symptoms and performing diagnostic tests. The research knowledge is helpful in exploring technologies that they can use to do tests for specific illnesses for accurate diagnosis. Further, the knowledge can be instrumental in studying various approaches that patients can use to manage sicknesses and lead a healthy living. Nurses educate patients and their families and diseases and how they can manage them. Therefore, they provide their clients with evidence-based information that guarantees a positive impact on their well-being.
As indicated earlier, EBP is instrumental in improving patient quality and safety. I will use EBP in planning for individualized patient care. Patients related factors such as values and beliefs can significantly influence the quality and safety of care provided. EBP will help design a care plan that conforms with healthcare delivery standards as well as patients’ values and beliefs. I will also use EBP in the administration of treatments and medications. Diseases have varying treatment and medication options, and their effectiveness depends on such factors as the patient’s condition. EBP will be instrumental in identifying the most recent and effective treatment and medication alternatives that have no or minimal risks for complications or adverse events. I will further use EBP in performing diagnostic tests for different illnesses.
Notably, most diseases have signs and symptoms that make it challenging for healthcare providers to know the patient’s sickness. For instance, some cardiovascular and respiratory illnesses have symptoms such as chest pain and difficulties in breathing. I will use the most innovative and accurate diagnostic tests to help decide what disease is affecting my clients and plan for appropriate interventions.
